Today, as we come together to commemorate National Youth Apprenticeship Week, we proudly applaud the accomplishments of six outstanding apprentices. These individuals have not only embraced their roles but have also distinguished themselves as exemplary representatives of our city departments - CDOT Aviation and Charlotte Water. Throughout the event, our audience will have the privilege of delving into the apprentices' journeys, hearing firsthand accounts from their department leads, mentors, and the apprentices themselves. Additionally, we'll be honoring their dedication with a proclamation reading and the presentation of certificates, recognizing them as National Youth Apprentices.

On Friday, April 26th, USDOL offers its annual “Kids Day” program for 2024. During Kids Day @ DOL, employees are encouraged to have their children shadow them, where possible, and talk to them about their work and the impact being made for workers across the country. It’s a great chance to talk about our collective contributions to the DOL mission, your team, and the importance of listening to each other and working together in the workplace. For this year, OA was able to arrange for two union-based Registered Apprenticeship programs – the Finishing Trades Institute of MD/DC/VA (International Union of Painters and Allied Trades) and the Ironworkers, Local 5 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program, to attend and participate. Virtual/Reality (V/R) paint sprayers and V/R welding sets.
