Event Description

It’s National Apprenticeship Week: Apprenticeships create career paths leading to professional credentials for new hires and/or incumbent workers.

Join The School of Extended Learning (SXL) and the Supply Chain Innovation Center & Business Incubator (SCICBI) on Nov. 16 at 11am to hear how registered apprenticeships can bring value to your hiring, upskilling, and retention challenges. Dr. Tricia Kerns will describe her experiences leading classes and collaborating with companies in the supply chain sector.

Governors State University (GovState) is now the sponsor of three Registered Apprenticeships in the supply chain sector, approved by the Illinois Department of Labor (DOL). These apprenticeship programs will allow GovState to fulfil the needs of this rapidly growing industry and create many new opportunities for advancement of employees.

  • Learn how grant funding and tax credits can support the education, essentially making it free. Plus, GovState handles all the paperwork making it an easy process for the employer.
  • Daniel Serota from Aon and chair of the Illinois Innovation Workforce Board Apprenticeship Committee will present GSU with the Governor's Proclamation in honor of National Apprenticeship Week and GovState's newly registered DOL programs.
  • Debra Cremeens-Risinger, Illinois State Director, U.S. DOL / Office of Apprenticeship, will ceremoniously sign GovState's apprenticeship programs as official registration into the DOL system.
  • Hear from Ryan D. Marks, President of UESCO Industries, the first employer to sign onto GovState's Industrial Production Manager Registered Apprenticeship program.
